Ed. Züblin AG, a subsidiary of European-based construction group STRABAG SE, has been commissioned by Axel Springer SE to build its new building in Berlin. Züblin will realise the project as general contractor under the group’s teamconcept. The partnering scheme already helped ZÜBLIN secure the qualification competition for the pre-construction phase that started in early 2015 and the company has been working jointly with Axel Springer, Rotterdam-based architectural firm OMA and the design team on all phases of the project from the preliminary design to the construction permit. The spectacular architectural concept by Rem Koolhaas features a more than 30 m high atrium that stretches through the entire building and which will open up to the existing Axel Springer campus.
Teamconcept holds many advantages The teamconcept partnering scheme is particularly special because of the early inclusion of all parties involved in the design and construction process. “Thanks to the early coordination and the transparency afforded by the binding teamconcept framework, we were able to accelerate certain processes in the run-up to this challenging construction project and were able to realise a number of optimisations. It was also possible to move up the start of the detailed design phase and to minimise redundancies”, explains Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE. “The teamconcept offers all involved a reliable partnership that helps to lay down projects jointly with as much on-time delivery and on-budget completion as possible.”
Stuttgart-based Ed. Züblin AG has about 14,000 employees and, with an annual output of over € 3 billion, is one of Germany’s leading construction companies.
