A joint venture of Ed. Züblin AG und Otto Wulff Bauunternehmung GmbH, Berlin, has started construction on the Möckernkiez pilot project on behalf of client Möckernkiez eG. The project in Berlin-Kreuzberg involves the construction of 471 residential units in a total of 14 buildings with direct access to Gleisdreieck Park. The joint venture is being led by ZÜBLIN on the technical side. The full timber residential buildings will consist of five full-sized aboveground floors plus one recessed top floor. An underground car park also forms part of the design. The complex will have a gross floor area (GFA) of 63,800 m2. Construction is scheduled to take 22 months. The project has a net contract value of about € 67 million.

The Möckernkiez pilot project is the result of a citizens’ initiative with the aim of creating an intergenerational co-housing complex that is ecological, sustainable, social and barrier-free. The contract foresees construction to the KfW40 energy-saving standard.
