  • Interim venue of the Coburg State Theatre planned as an architectural highlight
  • Façades, interior walls and ceilings made of wood

ZÜBLIN Timber has started with the timber construction works for the Globe Theatre in Coburg. The building ensemble consists of a total of four buildings connected by intermediate structures. The theatre will initially serve as an interim venue for the Coburg State Theatre, which is being completely renovated. In the long term, the new building will be used for a variety of different purposes.

The centre of the complex is a striking round timber hybrid building with some 5,100 m² of gross floor space distributed over four floors and one basement level. The three ancillary buildings have been designed as two-storey timber framed buildings offering a further total of almost 2,000 m² of gross floor space.

ZÜBLIN Timber realising all timber construction work
The team from ZÜBLIN Timber is handling all the timber construction works on the Globe Theatre, from workshop planning to the production and assembly of the timber elements and related tasks such as roof sealing. Around 3,400 m³ of LENO cross-laminated timber, 400 m³ of glulam and 80 t of steel will be used. The contract is worth around € 6 million.

When completed, the main building of the theatre will count among the architectural highlights in the city of Coburg – above all thanks to the striking cross-laminated timber louver façade covering the entire height of the building. The ancillary buildings will also be clad in wood. In total, ZÜBLIN Timber is producing 2,000 m² of timber façade for the project. The interior walls will also be fitted with wood while the approx. 1,450 m² of floor slabs will be built using a timber-concrete composite system.

The timber construction work on the ancillary buildings is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2021. In early July 2021, ZÜBLIN Timber will start work on the main building, which is scheduled to be finished in February 2022.
