Press release -

New neighbourhood complex takes shape: ZÜBLIN hands over extension of Riem Arcaden in Munich

  • Main tenant in shopping area is Peek & Cloppenburg
  • General contractor ZÜBLIN completes Bavaria’s largest new multi-use complex under the teamconcept partnering scheme
  • Completion of hotel and portico follows this year

The 18,500 m² extension of Riem Arcaden opens today after an investment of about € 65 million by owner Union Investment. The tenants of the new space, which include Peek & Cloppenburg, Aldi Süd, Intersport and bio kultur, help to further increase the retail offer and make the centre even more attractive.

The four-storey extension was built in about two years’ time by general contractor Ed. Züblin AG, which also realised the 311-room Motel One hotel and the so-called portico connecting the new building with the existing part of Riem Arcaden. The portico, a steel roof structure that is 22 m high, 8 m wide and 130 m long, is a visual highlight of the building ensemble. Resting on top of both sections (old and new building) of Riem Arcaden, the portico is supported by a row of pillars with integrated lights and is illuminated from below at night. Another striking element is the façade of the 97 m long and 57 m wide extension, designed as a timber panel wall with punch windows and folded aluminium sheet elements and delivered and installed by ZÜBLIN Timber.

The realisation of the extension and of the portico also marks the completion of the neighbourhood complex in Munich Messestadt following a design by Allmann Sattler Wappner Architekten.
