- ZÜBLIN Timber responsible for façade work
- Birch plywood panels create special look
ZÜBLIN Timber has started on a new project in Friedberg near Augsburg. Over the next eight months, the timber construction experts will build the façade structure for the replacement building of the Vinzenz Pallotti special education school as a foundation for the later clinker façade.
The overall project includes the construction of the new school building with two floors and one basement level as well as the school’s gymnasium (approx. 1,800 m²). The school building will cover approx. 6,700 m² of space, including a cafeteria, 20 classrooms and smaller breakout rooms.
The façades for both new buildings have a combined surface area of approx. 1,440 m² and are being built in the conventional post-and-beam style. A special feature are the wooden elements consisting of 50 mm thick birch plywood panels. The usual choice for post-and-beam façades is glued laminated timber or solid wood. For optical reasons, however, birch plywood panels are being used for the Vinzenz Pallotti School, prefabricated by the team from ZÜBLIN Timber at its factory in Aichach.
Among other things, ZÜBLIN Timber is supplying and installing:
- 1,250 m² of birch plywood panels
- prefabricated aluminium elements for windows and doors
- electrically controlled louvre windows made of aluminium with heat-insulating glass
- fall protection (inside)
- sun protection systems for the entire façade
ZÜBLIN Timber is scheduled to complete its work in October 2021. Overall completion of the new replacement building is planned for November 2022.
